The Lindbergh Foundation acknowledges and denounces the controversial pre-World War II statements of Charles A. Lindbergh. The Foundation does not support anti-Semitism, bigotry or hatred in any manner.

A Note on the Historical Record
Charles Lindbergh was a man of singular achievement and genuine complexity. The Lindbergh Foundation acknowledges both, without reservation.
His 1941 speech in Des Moines, Iowa — in which he suggested that Jewish Americans held disproportionate influence over U.S. media and government and favored American entry into the war — caused lasting harm and remains one of the most criticized moments of his public life. The views he expressed reflected attitudes that were neither uncommon nor universally recognized as prejudiced in the America of that era. That context explains how such thinking persisted; it does not excuse it. The Lindbergh Foundation is unambiguous: characterizing any group by religion or ethnicity as a threat to American interests was wrong then and is wrong now.
The German medal he received in 1938 — presented without warning at a U.S. Embassy dinner, and previously given to IBM chairman Thomas Watson and General Motors’ overseas chief James Mooney — was never worn. He donated it to the Missouri Historical Society, alongside his many other awards.

The Lindbergh Foundation continues the legacy of Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh’s lifetime of service by spearheading bold solutions and inspiring talent to help balance technology and the environment.
Founded in 1977 by Neil Armstrong, General James Doolittle and other friends of Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh, the Lindbergh Foundation has a distinguished history of enabling innovation at the nexus of technology and the environment.
Through its awards, it has honored many prominent individuals for their extraordinary contributions to aviation and the environment. Through its grants, it has helped nurture talent and launch promising careers. Through its programs, it has helped apply the technologies of flight to preservation of the environment.
