The Foundation presented the Lindbergh Award to Train for his work throughout the world with a spirit of cooperation and understanding that has earned him the respect of environmentalists, industrialists, and political leaders and helping to achieve balance time and time again between the environment and technology.


Russell E. Train, also known as “Mr. Conservation,” has been at the forefront of the environmental movement for more than 25 years. He was the President of the World Wildlife Fund-U.S., the principal private American organization involved in wildlife and habitat preservation projects around the world, as well as Chairman of Clean Sites, Inc., an organization of industries and environmental groups formed to accelerate the cleanup of hazardous waste sites.
